Minimally Invasive Lumbar Spine Surgery

MINIMALLY INVASIVE SPINE SURGERY

Jeffrey J. Larson, M.D. specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery. This collection of videos demonstrates some of the advanced minimally invasive spine surgery techniques used by Dr. Larson. Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery involves a minimally destructive approach to the spine, often through a tube that preserves the muscle attachments of the spine. The procedures are less invasive than open spine surgery techniques. They generally have less blood loss, lower complication rates, faster recovery, and are now frequently performed in the outpatient setting in an Ambulatory surgery center. In this collection of videos Dr. Larson explains a variety of minimally invasive surgical options to treat lumbar stenosis, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, disc herniation.

SURGICAL TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR LUMBAR STENOSIS

Lumbar stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal. This narrowing can occur from thickening of ligaments that connect the bones, degenerative disc disease, disc herniation, or bone spurring. The cauda equina and nerve roots that exit the spinal canal can become crowded and pinched. This may lead to pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the back and legs. This pain is especially present when standing or walking. Lumbar stenosis is often a result of the normal aging process of the spine. It is usually treated with exercises, physical therapy, and sometimes injections. In some situations surgery is necessary to make enough room for the spinal canal and nerve roots. In this video Jeffrey J. Larson, M.D. explains lumbar stenosis and some of the surgical treatment options to treat lumbar stenosis.

LASER SPINE SURGERY

Jeffrey J. Larson, M.D. explains laser spine surgery, endoscopic spine surgery, and minimally invasive spine surgery. He demonstrate the efficiency of minimally invasive spine surgery.

WHAT IS COMPREHENSIVE SPINE CARE

Jeffrey J. Larson, M.D.  is a board-certified Neurosurgeon at CDA Spine and Mike Ludwig, M.D. is a board-certified Physiatrist at CDA Spine.  Together Dr. Larson and Dr. Ludwig have combined their experience and their efforts to help CDA Spine become the most comprehensive spine clinic in the Northwest.  CDA Spine has earned center of excellence recognition for its comprehensive approach to spine care including nonoperative and operative techniques.

KYPHOPLASTY FOR VERTEBRAL BODY COMPRESSION FRACTURE

CDA Spine is a comprehensive treatment center for vertebral compression fractures (VCF). CDA Spine clinicians start with appropriate evaluation including assessment of your bone health, imaging of the fracture including non-claustrophobic MRI, spinal alignment x-rays, and bone density studies. Treatment may include nonoperative techniques, Vertebral Body Augmentation (VBA) or Kyphoplasty to treat the fracture, or in some cases surgery to stabilize the fracture. Kyphoplasty is now performed outpatient in the comfortable setting of the CDA Spine procedure room.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE SPINE SURGERY - MICRODISCECTOMY

Jeffrey J. Larson, M.D. specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery performed through small incisions and tubes for minimal disruption of the muscles and ligaments that support the spine. Surgeries like microdiscectomy, laminectomy, nerve root decompression and spinal fusion are now performed using Dr. Larson’s minimally invasive techniques. These surgeries are now routinely performed as outpatient surgeries.
