FLASH Navigation with 7D Technology

Machine-Vision Technology for Spine Surgery

Activated by the surgeon, 7D Surgical’s FLASH Navigation System utilizes it’s Machine-Vision Technology to analyze surface anatomy in just seconds, using only visible light. This analysis produces a full-color 3D reconstruction of the surgical site consisting of hundreds of thousands of points used for registration. The surgeon then defines the level of surgical interest and the registration points are colocalized to the pre-operative CT.

FLASH Navigation – Fast, accurate, cost-effective and radiation-free.:

Fast: FLASH™ Registration at the speed of light.

  • Instant FLASH™ Registration enables complete patient registration in just seconds
  • Sensitive Machine-Vision cameras instantly digitize intraoperative anatomy using only visible light and automatically match with pre-operative CT
  • Real-time implant sizing during surgery reduces the need for pre-op planning

Radiation-free: Improved safety. For surgeons, staff and patients.

  • Eliminates intra-operative CT or fluoroscopy used for registration
  • Reduces radiation exposure

The FLASH Navigation System can easily register spinal surgery patients automatically in an unprecedented entire workflow time of less than 20 seconds, while also eliminating intraoperative radiation.

Minimally Invasive Robotic Spine Surgery

Jeffrey Larson, M.D. is a recognized expert in Robotic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery performed through small incisions and tubes for minimal disruption of the muscles and ligaments that support the spine.

As opposed to open spine surgery, robotic spine surgery is a minimally invasive surgical approach that can be faster, safer and require less recovery time. Because of the reduced trauma to the muscles and soft tissues, there are many potential benefits.

Benefits of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

  • Better cosmetic results from smaller skin incisions
  • Less blood loss from surgery
  • Reduced risk of muscle damage since less or no cutting of the muscle is required
  • Reduced risk of infection and postoperative pain
  • Faster recovery from surgery and less rehabilitation required
  • Diminished reliance on pain medications after surgery
  • Shorter hospitalization time

Surgeries like microdiscectomy, laminectomy, nerve root decompression, artificial disc replacement and spinal fusion are now performed using Dr. Larson’s minimally invasive techniques. These surgeries are now routinely performed as outpatient surgeries. Dr. Larson’s expertise has earned him a 5 Star Rating.

Artificial Disc Replacement

Dr. Larson Specializes in Artificial Disc Replacement Surgery (ADR)

What Is  Cervcial Artificial Disc Replacement Surgery (ADR)?

CervicalArtificial Disc Replacement (ADR) surgery replaces diseased discs in the neck and is designed to treat the problem neck condition while preserving motion.  Traditionally, the same patient would have received a fusion. Fusion surgery remains highly effective, while also replacing diseased discs in the neck, but is designed to stop movement at the operated levels.  Cervical ADR is an option to cervical fusion.

How Cervical ADR Works.

The FDA-approved cervical artificial discs are ideal for single and multi-level cervical ADR.  Dr. Larson helps you decide not only if cervical ADR is right for you, but he also helps you choose the best artificial disc to use for your individual situation.

Cervical ADR is a safe and minimally invasive spine surgery that restores spinal movement and function.

Cervical ADR can eliminate pain and restore your quality of life.

SI JOINT PAIN

Do you have SI Joint Pain?

This question is asked more frequently now that the treatment options for SI joint dysfunction have evolved to include minimally invasive surgical correction.  For patients, it’s a very important question that demands diagnostic accuracy.

Dr. Larson -aka “The mind that diagnoses you and the hands that heal you”- is a master of diagnosis and will help guide you through the process of determining whether SI joint dysfunction is a potential source of your low back pain.

Let’s talk SI joint point.  The SI joint can be a significant cause of lower back pain. Clinical publications have identified the SI joint as a pain generator in 15-30% of chronic lower back pain patients. In addition, the SI joint is a pain generator in up to 43% of patients with continued or new onset lower back pain after a lumbar fusion.

Sacroiliac Joint (SI Joint) Anatomy

The sacroiliac joint (SI joint) is located in the pelvis; it links the iliac bones (pelvis) to the sacrum (lowest part of the spine above the tailbone). It is an essential component for energy transfer between the legs and the torso.

Like any other joint in the body, the SI joint can be injured and/or undergo degeneration. When this happens, people can feel pain in their buttock and sometimes in the lower back, hips and legs. This is especially true while lifting, running, walking or even lying on the involved side.

It’s common for pain from the SI joint to feel like disc or lower back pain, or sometimes hip or groin pain. For this reason, SI joint disorders should always be considered in lower back, hip, and pelvic pain diagnosis.

Making a Diagnosis – Dr. Larson Style

First comes the hands evaluation by Dr. Larson.  A variety of tests performed during physical examination may help reveal the SI joint as the cause of your symptoms.  It’s important to have this hand’s on testing to be able to accurately determine whether your pain is generated from your lumbar spine, your SI joint, or even your hip.

X-rays, CT-scan or MRI may be helpful because they can rule out (or in) other common sources of pain—such as your lumbar spine or hip joints. It is also important to remember that other conditions (like a disc problem) can co-exist with SI joint disorders.

Once the physical evaluation is done Dr. Larson will often perform a diagnostic injection to accurately determine whether the SI joint is the cause of your lower back pain symptoms. This diagnostic injection will be performed by Dr. Larson at his CDA Spine office in his procedure room using fluoroscopic guidance.

Choosing Your Best Treatment Option

If the SI joint is confirmed as the cause of your symptoms, accurate treatment can begin.  This usually starts with physical therapy or chiropractic treatment.  Dr. Larson sometimes combines these treatments with a steroid injection to reduce the pain and increase the effects of these manual treatments.

If the SI joint pain persists beyond these conservative treatments it’s time to talk to Dr. Larson about a more definitive treatment like a biologic injection with adipose derived regenerative cells, stem Cells, or PRP, or potentially minimally invasive SI joint fusion with the most advance SI joint fusion system available.

SI Joint Fusion with iFuse TORQ® Implant System

iFuse TORQ® is designed to stabilize and fuse the SI joint. The iFuse procedure involves inserting typically three threaded titanium implants across the SI joint to maximize stability, reduce pain, and improve function. The procedure is done through a small one-inch incision and takes about an hour. The 3D-printed iFuse TORQ implant was designed for osseointegration, which is the structural and functional connection between implant and bone. This allows your painful joint to be stabilized through binding of bone all along the implant.

iFuse Technology®

iFuse TORQ® Implant System is one of the latest innovative solutions from SI-BONE, the creator of the minimally-invasive SI joint fusion device—the triangular titanium iFuse Implant. More than 100, peer-reviewed publications demonstrate the safety, durable effectiveness, and biomechanical and economic benefits of the iFuse implant (www.si-bone.com/results). The iFuse implant is the only SI joint fusion device with multiple prospective clinical studies, including two randomized controlled trials demonstrating that treatment improved pain, patient function, and quality of life. As with any minimally invasive surgical procedures, there are potential risks associated with the iFuse Implant System. It may not be appropriate for all patients and all patients may not benefit. For information about the risks, visit www.si-bone.com/risks.
